A free account gives you the ability to select specific criteria to find the scholarships that match your qualifications and interests, giving you a better chance at landing the award. You also gain the ability to share and save scholarships and save different searches.
Step 1 is completely free. The scholarships listed on Step 1 do not have any application fees, and no purchase is required.
We recommend reaching out to the scholarship provider for the most accurate information. Each scholarship listing on Step 1 includes information about the sponsor, a link to the sponsor's website and, often, contact information for the sponsor.

Yes; Step 1 only lists real scholarships. The results you see are researched and vetted for accuracy. Local scholarship opportunities are provided through relationships with high school counselors. We encourage users to report any scholarship that they may find concerning.
Saving a scholarship is as easy as selecting the Save button at the bottom of the scholarship result card. After you save a scholarship, it is also shown under the Saved tab as long as the scholarship is still available. If you've already applied or are no longer interested, simply select the Save button again to unsave the scholarship.
If you are a parent or counselor helping multiple students, or if you are a student considering different sets of criteria, you can save an entire search and name them in the way that makes sense to you. Manage your saved searches in your profile settings.
Sharing a scholarship is simple — just select the Share button at the bottom of the scholarship result card. You'll be able to enter the recipient's email address and send the scholarship details. The recipient does not need to have a Step 1 account to see the scholarship information.
If you have an account, you can manage your notifications under your profile settings after you sign in. If you don't have an account but someone has shared scholarship information with you and you no longer want to get those notifications, you may unsubscribe.
If you want to be notified of new scholarships that meet your criteria when they become available, make sure you have opted in to receive those notifications on the Manage Notifications page of your profile. Then, be sure to add Step 1 Scholarships to your safe sender list and check your spam, promotional and other email folders.
If you experience issues logging in or other technical difficulties, contact us. Please provide your first and last name and a description of the issue in your message.
